Donnie Tucker was an accordion player who busked downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland, for almost 30 years, since the mid-90s, and I photographed him dozens of times. I would often try to capture his style or look for some interesting framing and composition. We both had fun with it. Oftentimes, I would stop for a chat, and he would tell me about his women issues or his dog Zoey. He loved dogs, and a lot of people would take their dogs for a walk downtown and would stop and say hi. Some people told me their dogs looked forward to seeing him! He would busk year-round, even during our rough Newfoundland winters.
Donnie died in November 2022. In 2023, I tried to get him recognized by MusicNL after his death, but despite their preaching about diversity and inclusion, my request was rejected. RIP Donnie!
Some good news about Zoey. The beautiful Candice Walsh was looking for a dog, and found Zoey at the dog pound. I’m happy to say they have become one happy family.
